Three

The number three is a magic number - there is no doubt about it. It's no coincidence that so many authors used it in the titles of their works - Dumas's The Three Musketeers, Three Men In a Boat by Jerome K Jerome, Three Sisters by Chehov, and Bertold Brecht's The Threepenny Opera.

And, of course, the genie will only grant you three wishes.

If you have any other ideas about where to find the number three, feel free to leave it in the comments.

Meanwhile, I have a special reason for thinking of the number three today. My blogger friend Sarah Elizabeth has given birth to a daughter - you can find both of them here.

I would like to celebrate this event with this post and the photos in it. Sarah-Elizabeth - this is for you, your family, and your little one!

  2. Gorgeous photos! I love them all but that hors d'oeuvre tray of three - yummy! If you get three of a kind or three "sevens" in Vegas- you are one lucky son of a gun! Nice weekend to you! =)

  20. Hi, Olga
    Let's see: there's an old children's story,
"The Three Billy Goats Gruff"; old movie/song, "Three Coins in a Fountain"; three candles on a birthday cake, for past, present and future. There are 3 examples of 3. Nice post!

  30. Olga,
Beautiful series of photos and intriguing post! ! Three is a lucky and happy number in Japan also. The number Three reminds me of many things; three happy plants which are pine, bamboo and plum used in celebrational occasions. And also a charm of three monkeys, “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” I’m not sure if this means positive or negative. Three sacred imperial treasures. Gold, silver and bronze metals, and more.

I was late to visit your blog “Why I Adore the Night”. What an interesting one! I left comment.

Thank you for sharing them. My congratulations to your friend!

    Best wishes,
    keiko

  32. Olga, good reflection for today:)
Aristotle was convinced that the Three contains in itself, at first, middle, and end, which also comes to indicate which is the symbol of perfect harmony.
Your photos today, I'll take the No. 10. I have hunger:))
Congratulations to your friend Sarah Elizabeth. by his daughter:))
    A kiss.

  38. Beautiful photos Olga. I have 3 grandsons but what we would always say in France was “jamais deux sans trois” (never two without a third.) It does not sound the same in English but let say, if you break 2 things, then you’ll break a 3rd one.

  39. Hi Tomoko,
It seems that three really is a special number for you. You can make three wishes on your birthday :)

    Hi A Lady`s Life,
I`m glad you liked it. I really enjoy capturing colour at the moment when it attracts my attention.

    Hi Vagabonde,
I had no idea about "if you break two things, you'll break a third one", but I guess there is logic in it. I also really liked the French expression.
