The End of the Week

There have been so many important, unimportant, funny, and sad things going on this week that I’m afraid there’s a bit of a mess in my head. It’s necessary to let all the thoughts and events find their proper place in my mind, and to throw away that which doesn’t belong. That’s what the weekend is for!

Here are a few random scenes from this week – Our neighbour works at a bakery. That’s why we often enjoy fresh bread, which he kindly brings for us. This time, he showed up with double the usual amount. He told us that he was going away for a week, and he couldn’t bear to think of us left here without bread. What I’d like to know is how are we going to be left without our neighbour. He doesn’t yet know about our decision to move in the nearest future.

I got an olive-tree cutting board and salad spoon as a gift.

Our cat Deniska is well-known for being a gourmand and olive oil aficionado. The moment that I turned my back, he leapt onto my gifts and started licking them. He drooled all over them – eww! And, despite the fact that it looked kind of funny, I decided not to take pictures of him doing that. I didn’t want to ruin the reputation he has on this blog of looking elegant and serious. So, here’s another photo of him with his usual dignified manner.

This week, I kept coming across all kinds of strange objects and images. Here are a couple of examples.

At the moment, I don’t have a single worthwhile thought in my head. Maybe it’s time to watch some Marx Brothers.

  9. Love the pic of Deniska - what a handsome cat he is. I can't imagine him being so naughty as to lick your new olive oil goodies (actually yes I can, cats are delightfully unpredictable).

  21. Hi once in a blue moon,
It's so great that you pointed out how much art I find around me. I feel that I shouldn't take it for granted.

    Hi Misty Meadows,
I'm not entirely sure that, with my current size, I would be able to fit in this small chair :)

    Hi Lydia,
He's absolutely hilarious. His facial expressions can really come in a dream or a nightmare.

    Hi Randy,
I grilled some bread with some mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and basil - mmmm!

    Hi Nikki,
    It's a bit creepy, isn't it?

  22. Hi Marty,
Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a great weekend too!

    Hi tinajo,
There is a sneaky plan in my head - to visit our neighbour extremely regularly :)

    Hi Richard,
De nouvelles aventures? Au cours du mois passé, j'ai vécu dangereusement assez:) Si j'ai de nouvelles aventures, j'espère qu'ils seront heureux. Avoir un grand week-end!

    Hi Pet,
It's easy to get used to good things. Can you imagine if you had fresh break regularly? Of course, I'm in a puzzled mood.

    Hi Sarah,
Deniska usually behaves very well. However, I can never leave anything on the table that has olive oil. He'll be there in a second, licking it up.

  24. Hi Diane,
I was also pleased with this gift. Especially since it really does smell like olive oil. Which is great.

    Hi ruma,
Thank you for visiting. I hope your summer is going really well. I'm glad you enjoyed my post.

    Hi Ola,
I don't know about other cats - our cat start screaming as soon as we open a bottle of olive oil.

    Hi Dolly,
I kept you in mind when I decided not to post compromising photos of Deniska. I know he's a favourite among the ladies :)

    Hi Φανή Παπαγεωργίου, Ζωγράφος,
I was surprised to see that it was made from olive wood. Do you have these utensils in Greece? I know olive is a sacred tree.

  25. Hi Duncan,
Yes, it is a gorgeous gift. Only for now, I have put it away on my shelf.

    Hi Nat,
I also marvel at the patterns in this type of wood. It is also really heavy!

    Hi Ann,
He is such a gourmand - he likes cantaloupe, proshuta, French cheeses, olive oil. You wouldn't think we picked him up from the shelter.

    Hi Ricardo,
Muchas gracias. Me alegro de que enjoued el puesto. Gracias por su visita.

    Hi Trevor,
I'm glad you liked my images. Have a great weekend!

    Hi Fabio,
Thank you for your compliment and for visiting. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    Hi Sandy,
Deniska is a Russian version with a suffix. His name is actually Denis, like my cousin's name. Have a great weekend too!

  32. Well, your post is full of worthwhile thoughts and much humour, which lifted my spirits.
May yours be lifted, too, as you contemplate the future. Whatever .... don't despair ... I somehow think, though, that your humour will carry you through.

  33. You are so lucky to have such a sweet, thoughtful neighbor! So sad you will be moving away from him soon though...

And what a beautiful cat. I really wish I was not allergic. Makes me sad. :(

I hope you're having a wonderful week. xo

  34. Hi Al,
I'm glad you enjoyed the olive cutting board. I still enjoy it very much, despite the fact that I have been owning it for several days already :)

    Hi Klaudia,
Thank you very much for your visit. I appreciate your comment.

    Hi lilylovekin,
Hahaha - it's true, doing nothing is my favourite thing to do as well.

    Hi Linda,
Our cat has a variety of luxurious habits, which made themselves known after we picked him up at the shelter.

    Hi daigo,
Thank you very much. It's a big compliment :)

    Hi Dianne,
Deniska is usually forgiven everything the moment after he does it :)

    Hi aguja,
I'm glad you noticed that my sense of humour is one of my coping mechanisms :)

    Hi Jennifer Fabulous,
It's too bad you are allergic to cats. At least you never have to deal with tiptoeing towards the bathroom in the middle of the night, trying not to step on somebody's tail in the dark.

    Hi Jenny,
It won't be easy to part with a few of our friends from the apartment building. And with this beautiful neighbourhood in general.
