Yellow

Once again, there is construction going on in our building. This time, they are changing the stairways on both sides of the hallway. Or, rather, not the stairways themselves, but the handrails. If they were changing the whole thing, I probably would have lost my mind completely by now.

The word “handrail” might sound innocuous, but there is enough racket behind the wall to test anyone’s patience. The hammering, drilling, and creaking begins early in the morning, and ends around 6 o’clock in the evening. Naturally, they take a break for lunch, but that break is never long enough.

I know that there is such a thing as feeling “blue”, but, I wonder – is there a yellow mood? For me, a yellow mood is a good mood, although it threatens to tip over into mild eccentricity. It reminds me of those times when you laugh so hard that your stomach hurts and you lose your sense of balance. However, it always depends on the nuances of the mood.

Here’s what a guru has to say on the subject of the colour yellow:

Inexorably connected to the sun, yellow sparkles with heat, vitality, energy and light.

Believers in the powers of gemstones say that carrying a yellow gemstone promotes self-expression and that yellow stones stimulate movement and mental awareness, necessary for enhancing decision-making skills.

The softer and more golden shades of yellow bring thoughts of pleasant relaxation and warming comfort, as  comfort foods. In times of stress, there is an increase in the sale of yellow foods as people revert to childhood comfort foods such as macaroni and cheese, buttered popcorn, custard, puddings, crackers, cookies, warm soups and ubiquitous, golden-toned French fries.

  1. Yellow mood, I like that. I cannot believe that there is so much yellow around, I must keep my eyes open I think. Is that a parking ticket on the windscreen? LOL Diane

  2. The problem with yellow is there are so many shades and tones, which you've highlighted here. The muted shades are so pleasant, and I'm drawn to them all the time. But the intense, primary yellow can be overwhelming.
I once had a yellow BMW 2002 (cute little car), which was so intense, so bright, especially in the sun. My friends laughed at it, but at the time, it fit my personality and ego. (I've mellowed a lot, I'm happy to say.) But one good thing about that car, that color . . . I NEVER HAD A HARD TIME FINDING IT IN A PARKING LOT. (Ha.)
    Thanks for your kind visit/comment.

  6. Hello Olga:
For us, yellow is a great attention seeker and we were always terribly wary of using it in the garden. Wherever it was placed it drew the eye, absolutely perfect if one wants a focal point but tricky if one does not wish to give importance to any particular place.

As for wearing it.....oh, dear no. But, as for eating it......lemon anything is a favourite!

  7. Hi Fábio Martins,
Thank you for visiting my blog. I appreciate your kind words.

    Hi Diane,
Yes, it is a parking ticket. You should have heard the owner of the car at that moment. But it is yellow. So, it fits the mood:)

    Hi Rick,
Now, after your confession, I even don't know what to say... a yellow BMW ...
You must love this color and luxurious things:)

    Hi Tattina,

    Hi Antonio,
Thank you, dear friend! It is very pleasing to know that you like this series :)

    Hi Jane and Lance Hattatt,
I know one old story about a French courtesan - or was it a Russian aristocrat; it's difficult to say - who was the first who risked everything and arrived at a ball in a yellow dress. She attracted the attention of her strayed lover, who returned to her.

  8. Hi Olga

I have always enjoyed the colour of yellow. However other members of my family are not as partial to yellow as I am. Yellow has always reminded me of sunshine, brown eyed Susans, summer, happy times....

    Thanks for the smile!!!

  13. I would love to be with you as you work on a color theme and lay it out. Quite remarkable. It will take some thought as to which is my favorite. I do like the picture of the vendor showing the world of high end tech mixing in with the sales of his liquor wares!

  14. These photos are so beautiful! Yellow makes me smile. Every time I look through your photos, I want to re-design my room. Your photos are so inspiring!
...and construction.. I have no problem with it. But the sound! Oh dear Olga, I am with you! It is so very annoying. I can't wait for the one on the highway by my house to be done!

    LOVE!

  22. A happy and certainly eccentric post - a worthwhile distraction from the 'noise of change'.
Here is a quote from the second book in my trilogy. It concerns Scream Saver (who is an errant yellow pixel banned from the colour folder for trying to be too powerful):

“We are in a restaurant website in Cyberspace,” Scream Saver tells them. “It is called ‘Green’. Green is a mixture of yellow and blue. Blue is a mistake. It should only be yellow.”
“That is power-seeking,” Lavender tells Scream Saver. “Yellow is important. Without yellow, there can’t be green. Blue is important, too. Without blue, there can’t be green. Yellow and blue share to make green. If you want to belong in the Iridescent Forest, you must share with blue. You must share with red as well.”
Scream Saver looks furious and says, “Do you want to get out of here?”
“It depends,” answers Violet Jelly, ignoring Scream Saver’s fury, “on the whereabouts of Doris Green.”
“Don’t know,” sulks Scream Saver, “but Doris Yellow - ”
“There is no Doris Yellow!” Pansy Soup is cross.
“There would be,” Scream Saver answers, “if I rushed in and forced out blue.”

('Violet & Lavender' by ann Sharples)

Hope this distracts you, too! Sorry it's a bit of a lengthy comment.

  30. Hi Cheryl,
I know that the colour yellow is not as simple as it seems :) Nonetheless, it's my mother's favourite colour. Once upon a time, she even had yellow floors.

    Hi David,
Naturally, this is Photoshopped...just kidding :) The photos are gathered from the past three months. Yellow just appeared quite frequently.

    Hi Wong,
Thank you. I think a yellow mood is sometimes contagious :)

    Hi French Girl in Seattle,
Somewhere back in time, I have an orange post. I am astounded as to how well you can tell cars apart. For me, they're just yellow cars.

    Hi tywo,
Thank you, dear friend. It's very pleasant to hear you say such lovely words about my photos. Seeing as I work at home most of the time, the noise is simply unbearable.

    Hi Dianne,
I often see the glimmer of the yellow sun in your poems.

    Hi Pierre,
We are in the yellow submarine :) Most of the time.

    Hi Luys,
You have surprised me with your knowledge of this type of flower. For me, cars and flowers have a colour, but I never know what type they are.

  32. Hi Eko,
Olen iloinen, että pidit minun keltainen kuvia. Älkää ymmärtäkö minua väärin, olisin halunnut nähdä keltaisen suomalaisia kukkia blogiisi. Ole hyvä?

    Hi Duncan,
I have the same association. Even when I see yellow flowers, I think that they are splintered off from the sun.

    Hi Ola,
Yellow is definitely associated with the summer. I have another weakness; I like the way the yellow sunlight reflects on the snow.

    Hi Sérgio,
I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

    Hi aguja,
It's marvelous that you have such an excerpt about the colour yellow. I like the way the idea of colour acquires details and becomes part of the scenario.

  33. Hi Sarah,
Admit it - which car would you choose, a red one or a yellow one? :)

    Hi Trevor,
Thank you so much :) It really is happy.

    Hi Lindy,
It's true - yellow is associated first and foremost with the sun, gold, and flowers.

    Hi Maelgi,

    Hi Nat,
I also hope that they will stop trying to squeeze intellectuals who work from home out of this building, and that the hammering will one day stop.

    Hi Fernando,

    Hi Krystal,
Thank you. You know how I feel when they start drilling in the walls :( It makes me want to come out, and bring out some mojitos, so that they'd drink and fall asleep.
