Hot Summer Days in High Park. Also - what is this fruit?

I hope that your summer is interesting and enjoyable. We are experiencing a real Canadian heat wave. I feel approximately like the dog you'll encounter below. I would give anything to sit in the water all day. If only I had such an opportunity.

The owner took a long time calling her. After a while, with a highly indisposed expression, she proceeded to climb out of the cool, refreshing stream.

If you get out of the house, and take a walk down to the lake, you would get to see some beautiful views.

Somebody is splashing around in the water.

And somebody else, growing weary of the heat, flies away to the north.

You can see that not everyone is awfully welcoming in High Park.

When you really need that zoom lens, it just happens to be the time you left it at home.

It turned out that there were some little racoons living in the hollow tree. It could fit the mother raccoon along with five or six babies.

Now the question - what is this fruit? This happens to artists from time to time - we might buy a fruit because we are so very taken by its colour and form, with no idea what it is, or what you could eat it with. Help! Does anybody know what it is?

In the end, a delicious punch that I learned how to make from my blogger friend - the 50 best punch recipes

Stay cool!

  1. Hello Olga:
This post is summer! Once more, wonderful images and we particularly like the one of the wire around the tree trunk with what we think to be a mouse. We have blown it up, but cannot be totally sure.

After torrential rain and thunder storms throughout the night, the heat wave of the last few weeks here has broken and the next few days will, it seems, be much cooler. A welcome relief.

As to the fruit, we have no idea at all.

  14. Hi Jane and Lance Hattatt,
The creature you are referring to is a chipmunk. He was in a poetic mood. Even when a passing dog barked at him, he looked at her languidly, and turned away.

    Hi M@risa,
Thank you. I hope everything is well with you. Unfortunately, I don't have access to your blog anymore.

    Hi Pierre,
Thank you, dear friend. I hope you're having a great summer.

    Hi Diane,
I was visiting your blog at the exact moment you were leaving a comment on mine :) Cute post on your blog today!

Hi once in a blue moon,
I was also surprised that I noticed that raccoon family. In fact, at that very moment, they were going in for their nap in the hollow :)

  15. Hi Cristina,
La ringrazio molto per la visita. Spero che stanno avendo un grande momento con la vostra attività estive. Mi fa sempre piacere visitare il vostro blog.

    Hi Rick,
I can believe that in some countries in Europe, it's 12 degrees!

    Hi Nat,
It was an act of consideration before returning to a clean home in the hollow tree.

    Hi Krystal,
Tomorrow, we are going to have 37 degrees. If we survive, I will continue to blog :)

    Hi sylluka,

  26. Hi Olga

I am not experiencing any sort of a heat wave. I know we have gone from drought to much rain. I wish we could get above 20. Always complaining!!! lol Love the photos of the racoons. I don't have them here. And if we ever get summer again, I know our poms will cool themselves off in our livestock waterers!!!

    Stay cool my friend!!!

  37. This post is such a delight, especially after a night of blocked drains and cursing and swearing ... and eventually clearing it all this morning ... hence the delay in getting to Blogland.

The whole essence of this post makes me so happy as it combines much of what I love. Also, your photography skills shine out.

  38. As usual, your photos are wonderful, Olga. I particularly like the trees with the shadows; so atmospheric!

And, as for that dog, it reminds me of my brother’s. He just can’t resist getting in any water he can find.

About the biscuits recipe, it is, well, a secret :-)

  48. gorgeous photos - your photos are always so vibrant. I've been hearing about the heat wave you're having on the news. My sympathies - it sounds like our regular type of summer weather in Western Australia :)

  49. Hiya Olga I can feel a Canadian summer just by looking at your pictures! and I adore the photos of the chipmunks and raccoons!

I have returned to Cork after visiting County Kerry with my friend over from France, our weather was hot and sunny but now it is back to cool, dull weather - thankfully no rain. If I send you some cool weather will you promise to send me a portion of heatwave??? X

  50. Hi French Girl in Seattle,
I have read your latest post with those very funny French dogs, and all the adventures and interesting places you have managed to visit this summer. I have enjoyed it immensely.

    Hi Sophia,
It's true that, right now, it is a wonderful time of the year, when you don't need to pile on layers and layers of clothing, and just enjoy the sun at your leisure.

    Hi Lydia,
For me, there's never enough colour. It's my passion.

    Hi Dianne,
The heat is not leaving Toronto. But it doesn't matter, because summer is still one of the most wonderful times of the year.

    Hi Wong,
Despite the technical imperfections of my photos, I always enjoy capturing the moment.

  51. Hi Misty Meadows,
How is that? I though that raccoons occupy every square meter in Canada :)
Even in the evening, the temperature remains around 32 degrees on some days.

    Hi Amin,
Thank you for your comment :)

    Hi ruma,
I hope that you are enjoying this summer. Thank you for visiting. I appreciate your opinion.

    Hi Ola,
The everyday routine - especially in the city - is really distracting from the wonders of the summer. I absolutely agree with you.
I have found out that the fruit is called kiwano.

    Hi Ann,
I'm so glad that, in Canada, nature always gives us pleasant surprises. Despite the awful heat.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi Sandy,
The kiwano was very refreshing :) It would have been interesting to know what kinds of fruits there are where you live :)

    Hi T. Becque,
It's a big compliment from a photographer like you :)

    Hi orfeenix,
I'm sorry that I disoriented you before your vacation :) I hope that you will find a place where you can really enjoy yourself.

    Hi Ekaterina,
Imagine that - we also live in the city, and I haven't even begun to show all the animals that share this space with us :)

    Hi 1-2Punch,
Thank you for the complement about my photography. I am really trying :) I'm so glad that, during such a hot summer, I have found your blog :)

  57. What a beautiful summer you have in Canada!! Even a heat wave looks like the blessing to me. I have been melting half already in Japanese scorching and damp summer.
