Colour is usually interpreted differently in different contexts. For an artist, it is extremely fascinating to know how other people respond to the colour combinations in his or her paintings. Could the colour pink be provocative? Could blue be intimate? When we talk about orange, why do we see it as energetic?
Colour is all around us. When we close our eyes, do we ever have thoughts and images in grayscale?
I have met some people who can't stand certain colours, or particular shades. And I have also met people who report being "wowed" by a colour.
If you have a spare moment, please deposit your five cents into my piggy bank - tell me, what two colours do you like and dislike the most?
I had such an intense week, with a lot of work. I hope that this weekend will be relaxing.
Below, you will find a couple of videos. In one of them, I am very taken by the colour of the bench. As for the second one - it may be black and white, but it expresses colourful feelings :)
Happy weekend!
Hello Olga:
ReplyDeleteYou really do, as an artist, have an excellent eye for colour which, so often, is translated here into the most wonderful images which you continue to post. These today are no exception and, as always, we love them for their vibrancy and punch.
It is difficult to pinpoint a favourite colour or colours as so much is governed by context. We love all shades of blue, but then again burgundy and cerise in the right place can look overwhelmingly good. In our apartment a dirty, flat white [Farrow and Ball 'Limewhite'] serves as a neutral backround to many pictures and items of furniture. As far as interiors are concerned, we find 'Magnola' tedious beyond words!
what is being shown determines what color I think. The perfect red on a car is different then on a rose. The dirty grey and black of a storm ridden sky can capture the fear in the back of the mind. Not a great answer but I guess it all depends.
ReplyDeleteYour photos reminded me of the Mexican muralists—the home owners simply embellishing their walls and doors for all to admire! Colors for me are site-specific. The colors in the southwest for example reflect orange sunlight, acid blue skies, red hot peppers, turquoise stones, golden & black hair...red rocks...brown earth. Loved the videos too.
ReplyDeleteI love green in all shades and usually hate pink and dislike red. Grey and some shades of blue are pleasant to my eye as well. When I wear green clothes I feel somehow better, more 'myself'.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, by the way!
They really are colorfull =)
ReplyDeleteRegards
Hello, Olga.
ReplyDeleteArtful Scenes are really grand.
Thank you for showing splendid works.
Have a good weekend.
ruma
I love all colors. I prefer the pastel colors. Calm. I see the light color. It's great for photography. The colors work at work, I have been employed in the printer. Your photos are color coordinated. Nice and interesting details. Sorry that the blog will now lower. Awaiting us in the tiny apartment renovation. Many greetings to you! Peter.
ReplyDeleteWow this color is incredible! I don't think there is a color that I really dislike...gray maybe? But I do love all colors, especially pink and sky blue! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great weekend!
I'm here through Tinajo and pleased to meet you Olga. The colours here are sharp and clean. It's fascinating to read you as an artist reflect on them.
ReplyDeleteIt puts me in mind of a quote from the Australian artist, Grace Cossington Smith as described in the book 'Stravinsky's Lunch' by Drusilla Modjeska. It's all about the need to keep trying, and colour yellow.
'A continual try, she said. It’s true of painting, it’s true of writing, and it’s true of life. The process of staying with that continual try can produce long low loops and sudden illuminations, which we see in retrospect as springing open and banging closed. But in the tug and pull of time it is another day lived, another piece of board on the easel, another squeeze from the tube. Cadmium yellow, spectrum yellow, aurelion, Indian yellow, lemon. The sun is God, Turner said at the end of his life. If anyone knew about yellow, he did…'
Thanks.
what i love here is that your see all the details that i see.
ReplyDeletethen you share them :)
beautifully~
I like the colors that combine in your nice post
ReplyDeleteyou have a happy weekend.
a hug.
Olga
ReplyDeleteYes colors evoke strong - weak responses to our emotional mind...
I love all colors,
but my favorite is the color of water,,, whether it is an ocean -one of the seven seas, a raindrop, frozen water (ice or an iceberg)
a glacial river, a muddy river, a lake, a pond, rain, water spraying out of a fountain, the water on earth seen from the moon, the pond or river or lake watery reflection seen from different seasons, in short I love the color of water have a wonderful week end,
joanny

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Thanks for sharing them!
ReplyDeletelove those blue wrought iron railings...
ReplyDeleteA veritable feast of colour! For me, colour or lack of colour is fascinating. My favourite colour is green, but not to the exclusion of other colours. Your photographs make me greedy for colour and I enjoy living in a colourful country.
ReplyDeleteThe videos are great and added vivacity to my weekend. Thank you!
I love how you picked a topic and went with it! Such a beautiful display of colors :)
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to do something similar to this, for example: pick the color green and go out and photograph everything that is green. I think you've just inspired me to do so.
As for my favorite and least colors: my favorite would be teal and my least favorite: probably brown.
Hi Jane and Lance Hattatt,
ReplyDeleteThis is the most sophisticated choice of colours, although I expected something along these lines from you :)
Hi R. Jacob,
I enjoyed your answer. I immediately pictured the shades that you described.
Hi Sandy,
I have never been to Mexico. Although, as soon as you said the word, I pictured the standard combination of colours you might expect to find in Mexican art.
Hi Ekaterina,
Thank you for commenting. Through the years, I'm used to approaching each colour with respect. I know, as an artist, that a small dot of piggy-pink can change a certain painting for the better.
Hi Ирен,
Ты очень интересно назвала эти оттенки разбелёнными. Потому что они, ведь, не пастельные. В них используется такой белый, который не прозрачный и раёт эту свою белую ноту. Спасибо!
Hi Sérgio,
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting. I'm always looking for colours.
Hi ruma,
I'm glad you enjoyed my works. Hope you're having a great weekend.
Hi Peter,
It's very interesting that you love pastel shades. And that you have worked in the printing business. I wish you good luck with renovating your apartment. Are you going to keep us informed about the process with your photos :) ?
Hi Jennifer Fabulous,
You have really surprised me. I thought you would pick passionate red and royal purple. Just kidding!
Hi Elizabeth,
Pleased to meet you too. What an wonderful excerpt. This is one of those pieces of writing that can be interpreted differently, and returned to many times.
Hi once in a blue moon,
ReplyDeleteI think I know which details you are referring to. It's like that blue paint that seeps through the white colour on the wall :)
Hi Ricardo,
Thank you for commenting. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Hi Joanny,
The water absorbs all the shades - not just of the objects that surround it, but also their moods :)
Hi Yvonne,
Thank you for your compliment. I also always enjoy the colours of Switzerland in your blog.
Hi Randy,
I also enjoy seeing those colour that you show in your blog. I'm only surprised how much turquoise in the place where you live.
Hi Ola,
Thank you for leaving your choice of favourite and least favourite colours. My piggy bank thanks you :)
Hi Adrian,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed my crazy colours :)
Hi TgRs,
I can't live without colour. Thank you for commenting.
Hi Perri,
You are welcome. Thank you for following me. I appreciate it very much.
Hi Leslie,
I'm glad you enjoyed my photo of the railings. They were chosen spontaneously :)
Hi aguja,
I can imagine how many shades of green surround you where you live, all year long :)
Hi Brenda,
Thank you for putting down your choices. I had a post that I called "Orange Day". I took photos only of orange things that day. I think it was in April...it was lots of fun.
I really enjoyed your photographs dear Olga, amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love most colours but my favourite would be yellow and its many hues, I think it is a happy colour and green from lime right through to a deeper green, I love seeing the different greens in foliage and nature.
I cannot think of a colour that I don't like as they all have a place in my colour palette.
xoxoxo ♡
Hi Dianne,
ReplyDeleteThe colour yellow is my mother's favourite colour :) I don't have colours I dislike either...they're all interesting in their own way.
I´m not sure it turned out thrilling, but at least it´s done! I´ve learned a lot with this, so I plan to sew more - maybe I´ll get the hang of it eventually! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi tinajo,
ReplyDeleteYou're the epitome of needlewoman:) You have so many talents!!!
beautiful beautiful colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the music links.
Greetings!
I liked these colorful photos! They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures and great video too Olga !
ReplyDeleteGreetings from France,
Pierre
Most of the pictures are full of Mexican blood, tequila like, have you got any?
ReplyDeleteAnd then, black and white is so expressive of feelings, as if colour could only distract!
♥
ReplyDeletesuch simple photos, but such great art
ReplyDeleteLove the post
Forever Chic,
Amber
wonderful serie of images ! the colours are just
ReplyDeletegorgeous !
Love the detail in your photos Olga. I would say my least favourite colours are red and orange. I love turquoise (as you know!) and shades of blue running all the way into violets and deep purples.
ReplyDeleteHi Úrsula CoCo,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the music links. They are both a little strange, but suited to this post.
Hi Amin,
I also think that certain colours are not so definite that a drop of another colour can't completely change the impression.
Hi Pierre,
Thank you. I appreciate your comment very much :)
Hi Pet,
Speaking of tequila :) Truly; some colours don't just sound a certain way, but they can also trigger tastes :)
Hi LauraX,
Thank you; likewise :)
Hi Amber,
I just wanted to show the simplicity of objects and the complexity of colours.
Hi Marty,
I'm glad you enjoyed them. Thank you for your comment.
Hi Dolly,
Turquoise puts me in a state of utter delight! My latest obsession is turquoise and white.
do you get tired of me telling you how amazing your photos are? i hope not, because they are!
ReplyDeleteI have tasted the colours in the last 10-15 years, before I have lived between black and white and some spot of grey...probably the colours have changed me or my life, and for this I adore it: gives me energy (orange), exuberance (green), melancholy (blue)...fantastic releases, nice to meet you Flo!
ReplyDeleteHi Angella,
ReplyDeleteLikewise, I really loved your children's camp photos. They are so extraordinary.
I never get tired of complements :)
Hi ne mora ne bionda,
It's very nice to meet you too. It's really interesting for me to know the opinion of different people. Nothing is more personal than the impression of colour.
Hi patatinka,
Я только недавно прочитала книгу про цвет в архитектуре. У меня это любимая тема для изучения и обсуждения - цвета и их восприятие.
