Blue - Canadian Edition

The colour blue makes a delicate, cool, and long-lasting sound. It`s always the colour of the sky, the sea, and blueberries. Not a single shade of blue can irritate me or put me ill at ease. Blue and I are friends, despite the fact that, in my paintings, I still haven`t found my perfect blue.

I have met blue for the first time when I was a child. My grandmother had a blue cup, made of fine china, the colour of which I later saw in a French cathedral.

What is your favourite shade of blue?

  2. Bonsoir Olga. It won't surprise you to hear that my favorite "blue" photo is the French bistro, "le Brigand" ;-) -- Excellent series! -- Veronique

  4. You have captured so refreshing blue skies!!! My favorite blue is the eleventh "blue car"!I like the contrast of between red and blue.

I remember that the only one time I saw real turquoise blue in nature at my young. The color of one of the lakes “ Goshikinuma” in Japan has not been faded in my memory.

    Have a great day.

  11. Hello Olga:
'Blue and I are friends'. What an absolutely lovely expression and we should like to think that we are too. It is, in all its shades, many of which are shown here, one of our favourite colours - maybe even the favourite!

  12. I love all your shades of blue and love the word bleu, and periwinkle!

  15. I love blue too. I love the blue of a summer blue sky - so intense, so full of depth, so vivid.

I love your first photo of the sky with the birds and the strip of sea below. Beautiful.

  24. Olga you have brightened up a dreary Irish night with the rain lashing against the skylights of The Garret, and the wind roaring through the trees across the street in the churchyard. Blue! I love all shades as you know. Turquoise has to be up at the top of my list, but I also adore lapis lazuli the colour of the Blessed Virgin Mary's robes. Sometimes the colours in icons of her robes can make me want to cry they are so pure.

  25. Wow, what wonderful blues. My faves are the skies, the irises and the delphinium I think. Great theme for a post.

  27. Olga dear your images of blue are beautiful, blue is such a soothing tranquil colour. The first photograph is my favourite with the subtle changes in the blue where it rises above the ocean.

  28. Hi DeanO,
Thank you. Blue is really one of those colours that you can marvel at.

    Hi Wong,
I like your expression, that blue is clean. It really is a very clean colour.

    Hi Veronique,
I`m not surprised that you have picked your favourite photo with a French bistro. It is from Quebec. We visited it several times, and each time, I found that French people use blue appropriately.

    Hi Pet,
It`s most important that you`re not in a blue mood too often :) Then, ladies in red will always be around you.

    Hi Tomoko,
It`s very interesting that you mention seeing turquoise only when you were young. Over here, you can see turquoise over the Lake Ontario very frequently - with many different shades.

  29. Hi Jorge,
It`s very pleasant to hear that it brings warmth to you. Maybe that`s because I didn`t include my winter photos :)

    Hi Duncan,
Sometimes, the sky over here is the colour ultramarine. It`s very deep and intense.

    Hi Randy,
Yes, shades of blue fascinate me a lot. I often find turquoise in your photos, which pleases me very much :)

    Hi Pierre,
I `m heureux vous avez aimé mes photos.

    Hi Eko,
Kiitos.Suurin osa sinisen värin Kanadassa tulee järvestä tai taivaalta.

    Hi Jane and Lance Hattatt,
I also find many different meanings in blue - sometimes hidden ones, in different shades. It can easily transition into grey or violet. The presence of blue always remains in those cases - even, sometimes, in red.

    Hi 1-2Punch,
Thank you for the periwinkle! :)

    Hi Petra,
I also love any shade of turquoise. There is something magical about it. Today, I have borrowed Death at La Fenice by Donna Leon; I will begin reading it tomorrow :)

    Hi Richard,
Bien sûr, je connais votre bleu. J'aime vraiment vos peintures. Ils respirent la tranquillité et la nature.

  31. Hi Sarah,
That`s our Lake Ontario in that photo. It`s great to live next to water when you can see the horizon line and you can observe all the shades of blue.

    Hi tattina,

    Hi Ola,
You`re absolutely right. It`s a very delicate transition between that state of blue you can find on the water.

    Hi Mary,
I really like your connection of the colour blue to freedom. Thank you.

    Hi Tisa,

  32. Hi Trevor,
Thank you for describing it as a Study in Blue...I really do nothing much besides study colours.

    Hi Dr. Kathy McCoy,
Yes, the colour blue is not as particular as you might think. It easily transitions into other colours. And it`s so beautiful in its shades.

    Hi Maxwell Soares,
Thank you for your visit and your comment. I`m glad you enjoyed it :)

    Hi Sandy,
It`s incredible, but I find that the colour of the sky is completely different in every country. Sometimes it`s deep, sometimes it seems transparent or pastel-like.

    Hi Dolly,
Turquoise is definitely one of my favourites. When the sky is blue, I like to look at my Mexican bracelet in that colour. I know you have a lovely selection of turquoise.

  33. Hi Gillian,
Thank you. I really love to collect the images that represent different colours, and then to study and compare them.

    Hi kopeechki,

    Hi Dianne,
It`s true - sometimes you can capture such unbelievable shades of blue on Lake Ontario. It`s as if you are experiencing a symphony of colours.

  34. Hi Olga. How are you? You should come to Antalya(Turkey) and watch the magnificent piano festival. Don't forget that music is the food of the soul. International Antalya Piano Festival is one of the best in Europe. This year, Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, Russian violinist Vladimir Spivakov, Finnish pianist Olli Mustonen, Hungarian trompetist Gabor Boldoczki, Labeque Sisters, Russian violinist Aleksey Igudesman and South Korean pianist Hyung-ki Joo, Spanish pianist Dorantes, Polish pianist Szymon Chojnacki and Fazıl Say and other Turkish pianists will perform in 12th International Antalya Piano Festival.

    Hi Craig Smith,
Thank you for picking favourites from my photos. I'm so glad they could capture your imagination.

    Hi Diane,
I hope you're feeling better. Take care of yourself. After all, it's not easy to make such a transition.

    Hi R. Jacob,
Thank you. I feel like a student when it comes to colours and their effects on us.

    Hi lilylovekin,
I think that periwinkle is difficult to describe. It's not lavender, it's not blue, but something in between.
